Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) criticized presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s views of Muslim Americans, saying most Muslims living in the U.S. are "patriotic."

"One of the points I think he's missing is, there are an awful lot of patriotic, loyal American Muslims," McConnell told HuffPost's Howard Fineman. "In fact, they are the best sources we have to find these lone wolves in our country."

Trump blamed Muslims in a speech Monday in the aftermath of the Orlando shooting, in which 49 people were killed and 53 others injured in a massacre at a gay nightclub. Trump said Muslims in the U.S. failed to “turn in the people who they know are bad,” claiming they could have prevented both the attack in Orlando and the shooting in San Bernardino, California.

McConnell opposes Trump's proposal to ban all Muslims from entering the United States, telling HuffPost he thinks it's a "bad idea." McConnell said it's hard to "target the bad guys," but suggested going after terror groups at their headquarters rather than putting a blanket ban on all Muslims entering the U.S.

Editor’s note: Donald Trump regularly incites political violence and is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist and birther who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims — 1.6 billion members of an entire religion — from entering the U.S.
